Community Counts

In August, I started documenting and sharing what we find on Wrightsville Beach, NC.  I've been focusing on the negative impacts of littered cigarette butts and have found through sharing what we find on our local beach that it is making all the difference to bring awareness to a problem that isn't confined to one beach.


Cigarette filters are the #1 littered item worldwide.  WORLDWIDE... that means that chances are cigarette butt litter is a problem where we all live. 


Visit the beach? Walk down a street? Take your kids to the park? Wherever you are... pick up litter and count the cigarette butts you find.  Anywhere you live...beach or no beach...send me the count of how many butts you find and I'll keep a tally here!  Also, if you pick up for 20 minutes and weigh the litter, send it to Sara Bayles of The Daily Ocean.
